San Diego, Urban Brush Fire

Rencho Penasquitos- A brush fire that started near Mount Carmel High School at around 1 PM. The fire caused the evacuation of approximately two-hundred homes in the surrounding area. The flames came within a mile of homes as fire fighters from all around the county descended on the area. Helicopters from San Diego Fire, Sheriff and CDF along with air-tankers made dozens of water and retardant drops to slow the fire down so that hand-crews could get a line around it. One fire-fighter was injured early on in the blaze. This fire burned about 300 acres and is the largest fire in the city since the Cedar fire in 2003.

Initial Agency: San Diego Fire Department, Mutual Aid, surrounding municipal, USFS and CDF
