Julian, California

A fire, that started in the afternoon along  Banner Road just east of downtown Julian,  rapidly spread up and down slope and split into two main heads.  The fire threatened numerous structures intermingled in the heavy brush and tree canopy.  Strike teams from all over the region responded and successfully defended numerous homes on the canyons and hillsides.  CDF air attack and county copters made good progress in halting the fire as it encroached on neighborhoods along Banner Road.  CDF air attack also worked up until the last glimmer of daylight to get a line around the second head of  the fire as it tried to climb Vulcan mountain, greatly diminishing the fire's spread the next morning.  Two firefighters were injured when they were struck by a snag.  CDF reports one home and twenty-three out buildings were lost.
